Education in Patiala

Education:
There are a number of institutes of higher learning in Patiala including the Thapar University which is ranked the 20th best institution nationally for engineering studies.

Punjabi University is also located in the district and it is a ‘Grade A’ university according to the Government of India. Mohendra College, the oldest degree institution in North India, is also located in Patiala. Today, it is affiliated to the Punjabi University.

Government Medical College, Patiala
, is second oldest medical college in the district and the state. It is also one of the most reputed medical colleges in the region. Another famous college of medicine in the district in Govt. Ayurvedic College Patiala. It was established in 1920 on Yadvinder Singh’s directions.

The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law was established in 2006 in Patiala by the Punjab Government. The government aims to make the university a ‘centre of excellence’ for legal studies.

The Bikram College was founded by the king of Faridkot, Harinder Singh, in 1945 in the Faridkot district in Punjab. It was, however, later moved to the Patiala and today it is one of the leading colleges for commerce studies in the entire northern region.

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Institute of Sports is a nationally renowned university for physical education studies and it is also located in Patiala.

Patiala Aviation Club is a school for the student interested in making their career in the aviation industry as pilots. It was inaugurated in 1962 by the late S. Pratap Singh Kairon, former Chief Minister of PEPSU.

Apart from these, Patiala also have some of the best schools in the region. Some of them are – Yadavindra Public school (YPS), Budha Dal Public School, British Co Ed, Ryan International, Our Lady of Fatima, DAV Public School, Modern Senior Secondary School, St. Peter’s Academy etc.
